Developmental Play

Sirius College foundation students are lucky to experience hands on learning through developmental play for 2 periods a week.

Developmental play is play based active learning, providing students with the opportunity to practise their language, numeracy social skills and problem solving in a supportive play environment.

The skills that children learn from developmental play are numerous and vary depending on the activity carefully chosen by the classroom teacher, to consolidate particular skills, which can include literacy, numeracy, social skills, problem solving, fine motor, imagination and creativity and many more. These skills foster a love of learning in a natural and supportive environment where students can relax, learn and have some fun!The other benefit to developmental play is that it fits in well with our You Can Do It Program encouraging students to be resilient, organised, get along, confident and persistent little learners!

Dance Jam Incursion

Check out these moves!

Fitness and keeping healthy is a part of the Grade 1 Health and Performing Arts curriculum for term 1. The subject teaches children about keeping fit through an alternative means, other than mainstream Sport and encourages participants to become active and fit. As part of this program Grade 1 students had a ‘Dance Jam’ incursion on Thursday 7th of April. The session was full of dancing, stretching, jumping, jigging and all round jiving. We have included some evidence of the wiggles, jiggles and giggles had by everyone who attended.

Keep on grooving,

Grade 1 Team
